JobGate vs The Site Book: sign-in and safety paperwork compared (2026)

The Site Book writes the documents; JobGate gets them signed at the door. Where the two overlap and where they do not.

In 30 seconds
  • The Site Book is built around AI-written RAMS, CPP, COSHH and inductions, with sign-off and site attendance added on the dearer plans. JobGate is built around the door: sign in, sign the paperwork, build the timesheet, seal the record.
  • JobGate drafts RAMS with AI and a named approver too, but if document writing is the main thing you need, The Site Book’s library is wider (CPP, COSHH from substances, method statements).
  • The Site Book Site Control blocks check-in until the RAMS is signed; JobGate flags and never blocks.
  • JobGate has timesheets, payroll files and CIS; The Site Book’s site does not mention timesheets. Price: JobGate £5 per worker a month; The Site Book £39, £199 or £395 per site a month.

The Site Book writes your safety documents; JobGate gets them signed at the door and turns the same scan into a timesheet. Both are 2026 UK products for small builders and contractors, and both have a QR sign-in, so people compare them. Here is where they differ.

We make JobGate, so we are not neutral. Everything here about other products comes from their own websites on 3 November 2026 and may have changed since. “Not mentioned” means we could not find it on the supplier’s site, not that it does not exist. If you spot a mistake, email hello@jobgate.uk and we will correct it.

Who each one is for

The Site Book (Redclan Ventures Ltd, West Yorkshire, 2026) is for builders who need the paperwork written: a RAMS, a construction phase plan, COSHH assessments and an induction generated from the job, edited in the browser, with worker sign-off from a phone. Site Control, its per-site plan, adds an entrance QR, CSCS capture and induction gating for principal contractors.

JobGate is for firms of five to a hundred who want every person signed in and signed up at the door, with nobody stuck at the gate, and the office getting timesheets and a sealed record without typing anything. It drafts RAMS with AI help, but its centre of gravity is the scan, not the document.

Choose The Site Book if

  • The main thing you need is the documents written: RAMS, CPP, COSHH, method statements, for lots of small jobs.
  • You are a principal contractor who wants an entrance QR that refuses check-in until the RAMS is signed.
  • You do not need timesheets or payroll from the same system.

Choose JobGate if

  • You already have RAMS, or are happy with an AI draft and a named approver, and the problem is getting them signed on site every time.
  • You want the same scan to do the timesheet, the roll call and the sealed record.
  • You want visitors and subcontractors on the same sign-in at no extra cost, and nobody blocked at the gate.
  • You want one price per worker that includes every feature.

Plainly: The Site Book writes a wider range of documents than JobGate. JobGate does more with the signature once it exists. Some firms will want both.

Questions

Can JobGate write a RAMS?

Yes. From the job page, JobGate drafts a RAMS with AI help, suggests hazards, and refuses to approve until every suggested hazard has been kept or removed and a named person has signed it off. It produces a firm-branded PDF. It does not write construction phase plans or COSHH assessments; upload those and JobGate gets them signed.

Does The Site Book do timesheets?

Its website does not mention timesheets or payroll exports on 3 November 2026. It records attendance and a live sign-in register on Business and above.

Which is cheaper for a small firm?

For sign-in and sign-off together, The Site Book needs Business at £199 a month. JobGate for 15 operatives is £75 a month; for 40 it is £200. For document writing alone, The Site Book Pro at £39 a month is cheaper than anything JobGate offers, because JobGate is not sold for that.

Do they block workers who have not signed?

The Site Book Site Control does; its Business plan tracks sign-off without enforcing it. JobGate never blocks at the gate: it tells the person and the office, and the office chases.
